Compartmentation is an important part of the fire safety design of buildings. Its purpose is to divide large areas into smaller areas. In achieving this, should a fire occur, its spread would be limited to a compartment rather than a whole floor.
NW Fire Solutions can carry out a full compartment survey within any premises. The survey involves investigation work within roof spaces, ceiling/floor voids and and through services that may penetrate the compartment. The purpose is to ensure that there are no gaps within the compartment which could allow the spreading of flammable gases or flames to another compartment.
There are four types of Compartment Survey carried out by NW Fire Solutions Ltd.
1. Visual-only compartmentation survey
This report outlines levels of passive fire resistance that should be provided within a given building and a breakdown of findings of a visual-only survey i.e. no intrusive/destructive inspection.
2. Intrusive compartmentation survey
(without NW Fire Solutions providing the contractors to open up building fabric and making good)
This report outlines levels of passive fire resistance that should be provided within a given building and a breakdown of findings of a visual and intrusive survey.
3. Intrusive compartmentation survey
(NW Fire Solutions provide the contractors to open up building fabric and making good)
Same as ‘2’ but we also provide contractors to open up and make good.
4. Fire Stopping survey
(usually required as a result of a compartmentation survey for the purpose of a contractor to price remedial work)
This consists of a visual survey and recording breaches in compartmentation using the Hilti app.
